Salgado Maranhão, Brazilian Poet, reads in Dallas

The acclaimed Brazilian poet, Salgado Maranhão, will read at the McKinney Avenue Contemporary Saturday, November 17, 2012, at 5:30.

Heralded as “one of the finest poets of his generation,” Maranhão will read together with his prize-winning translator, Alexis Levitin. The evening will be in both Portuguese and English.

The author of ten books, Maranhão has won the poetry prize of the Brazilian Academy of Letters (2011) and the Jabuti Award (1999), Brazil’s greatest literary prize.

The night’ s first reader will be Susan Briante, professor of Creative Writing at The University of Texas at Dallas. Her widely published poetry includes Pioneers in the Study of Motion (Ahsahta Press,  2007), which traces her experiences over seven years in Mexico City.

The evening is cosponsored by PEN Texas and The Writer’s Garrett.
